My friend mynuhobby (who has failed to post any of hers...) and I went on a weekend workshop through Horizon Workshops with the fabulous David H. Wells on Cape Cod.
We spent 3 very intense days either taking photos or learning how to take photos or critiquing photos or learning how to critique photos. We were not allowed to use anything but manual mode, we learned how to read histograms properly, we learned how to work a subject until it could be no more and the photo had to come straight from the camera as near perfect as possible. If we dared try any post processing we got a very steely stare (I did not but others did, phew!).
I ended up with exactly 1000 images; David chose 40 that he said were good, I think he was being kind. I kept 43 that I liked. Then I went back through them all and whittled those down to about a total of 50; what follows is what I think of as my top 5.
